剪画アート＆スペースでは、　年間6回のテーマ展を開催しています。

剪画アート＆スペースは剪画（切り絵）専門のギャラリーです。剪画の美しさ、楽しさを多くの方に知っていただきたい…と思い、2005年に東京の片隅にオープンしました。駅からは少し遠いものの、近くに水元公園があり、四季折々の散策に向いた静かなエリアです。近隣の方々、剪画作家、美術愛好家など剪画を愛する方々が集い、剪画を鑑賞し、ときには制作する、交流の場として様々な活動を行っています。
　ギャラリーでは年に5回～6回、それぞれに3週間～1ヶ月程度の剪画作品展を開催中。「春の香り」「紫」など、テーマにしたがって毎回15名程度の作家が20～30点の作品を展示します。また、様々な機会を得てドイツやフランスでのワークショップ、ポーランドやブルガリアでの展示やワークショップなど海外との交流も積極的に行っています。

As a gallery specializing in senga (cut-paper art), Senga Art & Space was founded in 2005 in an obscure corner of Tokyo with a mission to promote the beauty and pleasure of senga to broader audiences. While it’s a bit far from the nearest train station, the gallery, which is located near Mizumoto Park, a quiet area suited for seasonal strolls, serves as a gathering space for senga artists, art enthusiast and area residents who enjoy viewing – sometimes creating – senga works. Gallery exhibitions are held five to six times a year. Each exhibition, held for three weeks to a month, is participated by about 15 artists and features 20 to 30 works that are created according to themes such as "Spring Scent" and "Purple.”

We are actively engaged in international senga exchange programs through workshops (Germany and France) and exhibitions (Poland and Bulgaria). We also hold regular senga classes as well as one-day trial workshops. The outline of these classes and workshops can be found in the Senga Course pages. 　紙を切るという表現方法は、アートとして、また宗教的な制作において世界中で見ることができます。ヨーロッパではフランス、デンマーク、スイスでその技術を見ることができますし、大道芸として行われることもあります。また、メキシコでは古来から宗教的な儀式の装飾のために切り絵を用いてきました。
　日本では近代的な素材が用いられる以前に、照明器具である行灯や障子としての窓、屏風などの部屋の仕切りに紙を使用してきました。近年、世界中で人気のある折紙や木版画、書道などの芸術は、日本人が古くから紙という素材に親しんできたという伝統に基づくものでもあります。
　剪画はこうした紙に親しんできた伝統を持つ日本の中で育った切り紙です。日本の伝統的な技法と素材を現代に活かし、新しい芸術の分野を確立したアート、それが剪画です。

Throughout the world and its history, cut-paper art has been recognized as one of the most commonly employed means of expression, both artistic and religious. In France, Denmark, Switzerland and other European countries, its technique has been well-demonstrated by the wide range of artists, from street performers to embroidery designers to fine artists. The native Mexicans have been using cut-paper figures of God in certain religious ceremonies for centuries.
In Japan, people have always used paper extensively in their daily life, from small lamps and Byo-Bu (an ornamental room partition) to windows and even room doors. Origami (folding-paper art) , popular in America in recent years, has been enjoyed by Japanese children for many generations. The Japanese art (especially in painting, wood block and other forms of print-art as well as in calligraphy) owes much of its characteristics to artists’ attempt to best present the unused portion of paper as a meaningful part of their work.
SENGA is a highly refine and complex form of the traditional Japanese cut-paper art called kirigami (ki-ri-ga-mi). While kirigami is generally considered to be a traditional craft, SENGA, with its delicate combination of over-all simplicity and intricacy of lines, curves and colors, has established itself as a legitimate form of art in Japan.

Although Senga Art & Space is specialized in Senga exhibitions, you are welcome to use it as a rental gallery during the no-exhibition periods. Please contact us for more information.
